DAMSEL IN DISTRESS

No matter how strong she looked
No matter how powerful she was
No matter how independent she was
No matter how much wealth she had
Hidden within her peacock-like being laid a damsel
A damsel who wanted to be rescued by a prince
She was a damsel in distress

They were all fooled by her castle
They were carried away by her grace
They were all blinded by her beauty
The diamonds on her ebony skin distracted them
Her scepter made them bow
But within her royal cocoon laid a damsel
A damsel in distress

They all craved this life
They played dirty politics
They envied her throne
They worshipped her crown
They were all ignorant and blind
Cos they still couldn’t see this damsel
This damsel in distress

Royal principles
Royal poise
Royal feasts
Royal curse
Royal agony
Royalty was the theme
Royalty…but in distress

She had learned to endure it all
The pain
The cravings
The silly wish to be free
This was her life
She was and would always remain
The damsel in distress
